As a charitable fund of MCF, we are excited to participate in their Charitable Match Program--and you can help! Your donation dollars have a greater impact from December 2nd to January 5th, and we thank you for considering a donation during this giving season. Midlands Community Foundation Matching Charitable Program:

Under the Match Program, MCF will provide matching funds for NEW contributions made to existing and newly created Affiliated General, Designated, Donor Advised, Field of Interest, and Scholarship Funds up to $5,000 per individual donor, and subject to a maximum of $100,000 for all
MCF Funds.

If more than $100,000 is contributed, the matching dollars will be pro-rated based on the total contributions made to all funds. Matching dollars are for donations only. All donations must be dated and received between Dec. 2 and Jan. 5 to qualify for the Match Program. Charitable fund event sponsorships and/or event tickets are not eligible for matching dollars

Today was our closing performance of "One Christmas Eve at Evergreen Mall," marking the end of our performances for 2025 and our 49th season. This show featured stories of the real struggles and victories people face, especially during the holidays. These stories could not have been brought to life on our stage without our fantastic cast. This show is truly an ensemble effort, and we thank our entire cast for the time and energy they put into this production. A big thank you as well to our artistic director, Kevin Colbert, who put together this fabulous cast and crew. He had a clear vision for this production, and we appreciate all the work he did to bring the show to life on our stage. Thank you as well to Brandy Hall, who handled both the props and stage management for this production - we couldn't have done this show without her! Thanks to Kathryn Cover for her assistance with the costumes, as she truly worked to bring these real people to life and had them all looking the part. Shout-out and thank you to Aaron Spracklin and Nick Haussler, who designed the lighting and sound, respectively, for this show and the entire season! Thank you to Mason Petersen for operating our lightboard during this production. Thanks to our technical director and scenic designer, Adam Whittredge, and Scenic Artist, Linda Dabbs, who made the mall come to life on our stage! You Can’t Take It With You was one of the most popular plays of its time, winning the 1937 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and an Academy Award for its 1939 film version. The family of Martin Vanderhof lives just around the corner from Columbia University. Grandpa, as Martin is more commonly known, is the head of a large and extended family of charming eccentrics. When his granddaughter Alice falls for her boss, Tony, a handsome scion of Wall Street, she fears that their two families – so unlike in manner, politics, and finances – will never come together. But why be obsessed with money? After all, you can’t take it with you.

We are excited to introduce some of the cast of our upcoming production of "One Christmas Eve at Evergreen Mall." Here we have three returning Born-in-a-Barn players: Madison E.M. Garey as Darla, Jon R. Kruse as Andy, and Lynette Boyce as the Bell Ringer and Piano Player. Get tickets at lofte.org/tickets or call 402-234-2553. Madison E.M. Garey is thrilled to return to the Lofte stage in this year’s Christmas production of "One Christmas Eve at Evergreen Mall," where she brings the ever-watchful mall cop Darla to life. She has previously appeared in the award-winning "Radium Girls," and other shows at the Lofte. A Jesus-loving, world-traveling wife, mother, and combat veteran, Madison lives in Manley and is deeply grateful for her husband's unwavering support and the chance to continue sharing her love of storytelling with the community.

This show marks Jon Kruse’s ninth effort onstage for The Lofte, including “The Odd Couple”, “Of Mice and Men”, and “Noises Off”. Jon has over 100 roles to his credit. He directed the Southwest Premiere of “The Red Velvet Cake War” and the World Premiere of “A Doublewide, Texas Christmas,” both by Jones, Hope, and Wooten, at Theatre Off The Square in Weatherford, Texas. He resides in Nebraska City with his wife Donna, both of whom are slaves to their Basset Hound Molly Rose.

Lynette Boyce says, “Some of my very best theatre memories have been with the Lofte! A few of my favorite roles are Maria in "The Sound of Music," Kate in "Kiss Me, Kate," and Dolly in "Hello, Dolly!", with a play or two along the way. I've always enjoyed being "in the pit" as well. My musical teaching career was in Lincoln, NE, with a focus on middle school vocal music. I've also had many private voice and piano students over the years. I'm happily retired in Lincoln with my wonderful husband, Bob.”

Returning Born-in-a-Barn player Miki Valenta will be playing Ellie, and new Born-in-a-Barn player Gary Dunker will be playing Gerald. You can see them in the scene titled "Hark How The Bells." Gary Dunker returns to the stage after a nearly thirty-year hiatus to join his daughter Christa (Linda) and grandson Evan (Terry) in this entertaining Christmas show. Gary has been involved in theatre in multiple ways: as an actor, director, and playwright of “Charades,” a murder-mystery farce originally produced by the Iola Community Theatre in Iola, Kansas. He is a retired pastor who continues to serve three house churches and, in his spare time, writes historical fiction set in Nebraska's Old West. Gary and his wife Carol make their home in Lincoln, not far from their two daughters, son-in-law, and six grandchildren. He hopes you enjoy One Christmas Eve at Evergreen Mall at the Lofte as much as he has in returning to the stage. Merry Christmas.

Miki Valenta Unfortunately, Ellie the Elf’s & Miki’s love lives have been eerily similar lately, except Miki’s was a week before a play performance. Stephanie Porter is excited to be making her sixth appearance at the Lofte. She was most recently seen in Beatrice Community Players’ production of The Sound of Music. She has also appeared on many other stages, including The Lincoln Community Playhouse, Angel’s Theater Company, and OmniArts Nebraska. Stephanie is a Lead IT Applications Developer for the State of Nebraska. She also works for Eagle Hollow Scream Park every October as a scare actor. Stephanie lives on an acreage near Sterling with her husband, Pat, and their cat, Jack. She loves to spend time with her daughters (Ashley, Allison, Sydney) and sons-in-law (Ronnie, Jordan, Dakota), as well as her granddaughter (Cassandra). Stephanie is very grateful to Pat for his continuous support and encouragement.

Christa Dunker is excited to be part of this funny and heartwarming show, and to work with her son, Evan (Terry), and her dad, Gary (Gerald)! Christa is an Undergraduate Admissions Counselor at Concordia University, Seward. She also serves as Secretary on the Lofte Board of Directors. Her favorite Lofte roles include: Harvey (Nurse Kelly), The Diary of Anne Frank (Miep Gies), Our Town (Mrs. Soames), and Polter-Heist (Dano Sunshine).

Brandy Hall is thrilled to be back at the barn where you last saw her in ‘Our Town’. Favorite roles include M’Lynn in ‘Steel Magnolias’ and the Wicked Witch in the ‘Wizard of Oz’. Brandy lives in Papillion and teaches band in Syracuse. Her two sons, Dylan and Tyson have left the nest, so free time is now spent painting or in the garden. "Thanks to all who support the arts: to mom and dad who got me started, Connie Goneya who gave me my first role, Kevin for welcoming me into the Lofte family, and the multitudes who buy tickets to keep us going. Rebekah Petersen is a professional performer and choreographer based in Omaha and is very excited to be a part of Lofte Community Theater’s production. A graduate of the University of Nebraska at Kearney, Rebekah’s journey in the arts began with a passion for storytelling through movement. In her studies, she was given the opportunity to create and produce pieces heavily rooted in modern dance techniques, many of which were choreographed with her sister Hannah Petersen. She would like to thank Noelle Bohaty for being such an integral part of her creative journey and her parents for their unwavering support and love.

Jeanne Saadi is thrilled to be returning to the Lofte stage. She was last seen as Mrs. Gibbs in Our Town and frequently behind the barn’s concessions counter, making sure Lofte visitors were fed and refreshed. When she’s not pretending to be someone else, Jeanne works as a recruiter for Boys Town and enjoys making things out of other things.

Marrissa Charley Whatley lives in Omaha with her husband, Josh Smith, and three cats (Marshall, Moony, Marceline) and two dogs (Zeta Bee and Ziggy). She’s in school studying for an endorsement in early childhood education. Marrissa has been involved in the Lofte’s variety shows as well as Remembering Carol Burnett and Crimes of the Heart.

Erin Weidenhamer is a recent UNO graduate, receiving her Bachelor of Science in Economics in May 2025, and is excited to perform her first show with the Lofte. While she previously performed with the Missoula Children’s Theater summer camp at the Lofte, this is her first show with the company itself. Some of Erin’s recent performances have been in The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, directed by Emilie Rothanzl, and Men on Boats from UNO Theater. After graduating, Erin has begun working full-time and looks forward to continuing to perform.

Chris Werger says, “It's good to be back at the Lofte after a short absence. I feel very fortunate to be working with this group of talented, professional people, and a creative and talented director, Kevin. I love this production because it's everything Christmas, which I love. Still live on a small acreage just outside of Eagle. My husband Jack and I just celebrated 46 years of marriage. Thank you, Jack, for your support and dog sitting so I can be in the production. Our son lives in Lincoln with his wife, and I am finally really, really retired. I wish you all a blessed Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year.”

Wyatt Baker is, as always, incredibly excited to take part in another Lofte production. Being based out of Lincoln, the bustling nightlife of Manley keeps him coming back to rehearsals. For his 13 minutes of stardom in this play, he thanks his family, himself, and Willem Dafoe, all of whom play pivotal roles in his life. He’d also like to give credit to the director, as well as the Lofte community as a whole, for continuing to create performances that are just as much a joy to watch as to take part in. If you’d like to learn a little more about him, pay close attention to his role and see the key similarities between Wyatt and Robert: a victim of nepotism, overly dramatic, and always wearing a tie to compensate for how young he is.

Evan Dunker is excited to share the stage with his Mom and Grandpa. His previous roles include Third Man in Diary of Anne Frank (Lofte) and Baseball Player in Our Town (Lofte). He is also excited to have you here and thanks you for taking the time to see the show.

Danielle Thies is thrilled to return to The Lofte stage for this year’s Christmas production. When she’s not at the Lofte, Danielle works at UNMC's College of Public Health, where she supports programs that strengthen communities around the world. She is on the Board of Directors and volunteers regularly at The Lofte, helping with events, productions, and anything else that keeps this wonderful theatre humming. She lives in Papillion with her new puppy, Feyre, who keeps life entertaining and delightfully chaotic. Danielle is grateful for the warmth of The Lofte community and hopes this show brings you joy, laughter, and a reminder to spread kindness throughout the holiday season.

Joshua P. Smith appeared on the Lofte stage earlier this season in "The Last Mass at St.Casimir's," where he was nominated for a Broadway World Omaha Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Play. Joshua has also been seen on the Lofte stage as Mr. Darque in Beauty and the Beast, Gary in Hilda's Yard, and again as Georgie in King o' the Moon. Joshua uses his master's degree in mathematics at UNO and teaches AP Statistics and geometry at Omaha North High School. He lives in Omaha with his wife, 2 dogs, and 3 cats, and enjoys playing tabletop role-playing games and attending Renaissance festivals.

Bill Bossman moved to Omaha from South Dakota in 2021 after retiring from a long legal career, most recently as a tribal court judge for the Rosebud Sioux Tribe. His involvement with theater began with high school one-act plays in his hometown of Ponca, Nebraska, and continued at Midland University. He has appeared in community theaters in Texas, Nebraska, and South Dakota. Last year, he was seen playing Scrooge in A Dickens Christmas Carol at The Lofte. His family includes his wife, Daria, three sons, three daughters-in-law, six granddaughters, and two dogs, Daisy and Olive. Bill hopes you enjoy your visit to Evergreen Mall and that the stories we tell will add to your enjoyment of Christmas this year.

Melinda Mead is always happy to return to The Lofte stage. For her, this show has everything she loves. First, it's a Christmas show. Favorite Christmas show appearances include overdosing on horse tranquilizers in Christmas Belles and blowing up nativity displays in A Double-wide Texas Christmas. Second, this cast is a mix of people she has worked with before, people she has seen on The Lofte stage, and people The Lofte audience is meeting for the first time. Third, and most importantly, this show is a chance to share the stage with her son Josh and daughter-in-law, Marrissa. The Lofte Family is built on a tradition of families coming together to bring the arts to rural Nebraska, and Melinda is humbled to be part of that tradition.

Nate Padilla is making his Lofte debut! His stage credits include: Young Frankenstein: The Musical (Igor), Shrek: The Musical (Donkey), The An Audition For Murder (Jim), Haunted Hallows Scream Park (Jason Voorhees), and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (Ensemble - SNAP! Productions). Nate is also currently filming as a season regular on the legendary Omaha TV series "Dr. San Guinary’s: Creature Feature". On the side, Nate also writes and produces his own music. He plays bass on the worship team at Christ Community Church, and in 2022, he released his second full-length studio album, "ZOINKS!" You can find all his music on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube. This year, he is releasing his new Christmas album, "Original Gifts," on December 5.

Lizzy Diamond is excited to make her Lofte debut in One Christmas Eve at Evergreen Mall! She graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 2024, where she minored in Theatre Arts and spent lots of time both onstage and behind the scenes. Some of her favorite projects from NWU include Abigail 1702, Romeo and Juliet, The Mousetrap, Eurydice, and A Christmas Carol. Lizzy currently resides in Bennington and works in Omaha to bring arts programming to elementary schools. When she's not working at the office, she can actually be found working at the mall! She is delighted that you have chosen to spend a portion of your holiday season here with us! "Thank you to my friends and family for all of their love and support!"

We want to take a moment to remind our followers of safe ticket-buying best practices. It has been brought to our attention that sites are reselling not only our tickets, but also tickets for many small and local community theatres. When buying tickets for a show at the Lofte, such as our upcoming production of One Christmas Eve at Evergreen Mall, consider the following:
🎟When in doubt, always start at lofte.org - that is our official website. Tickets for One Christmas Eve at Evergreen Mall are available for purchase through our ticketing partner for this season, Etix. From our website, we will safely direct you to the Etix website to purchase official tickets. No extra fees, no weird delivery options.
🎟If you have any concerns about your order or want to order over the phone, please don't hesitate to call our box office at 402-234-2553. If no one is available to take your call, please leave us a message with your name, phone number, and the reason for your message. Someone will call you back as soon as we can!
🎟Avoid any websites that call themselves an "official" or "certified" reseller. They may sell you tickets, and they will likely be valid, but it's even more likely that there will be additional fees that we have no control over. Additionally, if an issue arises and you need to exchange it for another performance, we may not be able to assist you, as we likely won't have your information in our systems.
🎟As a best practice, never purchase from someone you don't know who claims to have tickets to resell on social media. Occasionally, these resellers will even post on our posts. We do our best to remove them as quickly as we can, as we do not allow ticket reselling on our social media pages. If you have any issues with your tickets, you can sell or give them to a friend. However, if you need assistance, you can always call our box office, and we'll be more than happy to help.

We'd like to take a moment and give a very special shout-out to our departing Concession Stand Coordinator - Rylee Ackman! Rylee ran our stand for about 2 years and has taken a step back as of this summer, when she was expecting the birth of her second child. Rylee first got involved with the Lofte when she participated in the Missoula Children's Theater at a young age - she played a mouse in The Pied Piper. Her first Lofte production was Annie, where she was part of the orphan ensemble. Rylee enjoyed bringing her bright smile and fun new options to the concession stand! Rylee lives in Cass County with her husband, Gabe, their two-year-old daughter, Rosalee, and their infant son, Axel. Rylee won't be far, as she hopes to come back and help out in the stand again soon!
Thank you so much, Rylee. We will miss having you behind the counter for every show, but we wish you and your family all the best and look forward to seeing you soon!

We are excited to introduce our new Concession Stand Manager and Coordinator, Chase Alder! You may have seen Chase behind the counter this season and most recently at performances of Rumors, and you'll continue to see him around!
Chase is a Nebraska native with a love for creativity, curiosity, and trying new things. He has worn many hats, including nurse, food service worker, manager, and theatre volunteer, and each role has shaped the way he connects with people and approaches challenges. In his free time, Chase enjoys gaming, tending to his plants, and diving into new books, always chasing that next spark of inspiration. He sees life as an ongoing project to learn, grow, and share experiences with others.
